Cacao (what chocolate is made out of) is actually the large seed of the Theobroma plant. It gets picked, dried, and then fermented before getting ground up into a powder. You can buy that powder itself in raw form, which is what this Chocolaty Breakfast Smoothie recipe uses for our yummy chocolate fix. And when it’s raw — before all those extra, not-so-healthy ingredients are added — it actually has quite a few health benefits!

Raw Cacao has often been called a Superfood for your Brain and Heart.

Cacao also contains four vital neurotransmitters that contribute to our happiness and well-being: serotonin, dopamine, anandamide, and phenylethylamine. Eating it in raw form, like in this delicious smoothie, can literally help your depression
